Allura fiber cement siding

When it comes to installing a new siding on your house, you can come across Allura – a young and developing company established less than ten years ago. This manufacturer is a branch of a Mexican company, named Plycem, famous for its trim products. Exponentially growing, Allura had three fiber cement factories at the start, and by 2016 there were more than a dozen plants. Before launching its branch, Plycem invested in developing and researching fiber-cement products and came up with many improvements.

New-line durability

Many homeowners would question themselves while deciding to make residing works on their houses. Vinyl, wood, metal, and stucco siding options would look great, but most of them are vulnerable to moisture and ocean air exposure and have complicated and high-priced installation. Moreover, no manufacturer can assure its clients that, for example, wood will last more than five years without proper maintenance.

Fiber cement materials can solve all these problems with fiber cement materials. Reviews on Allura siding show us that young and bright manufacturers can make their products practically indistinguishable from wood or vinyl, still providing a 50-year warranty on them.

Fiber cement siding is beautiful and at the same time durable and robust, withstanding hailing wind and rain, especially during hurricane season. Allura materials are also well endurant with heat and UV rays, so colors won’t fade or wear off. A specially developed formula to protect you from cold weather typical in Vancouver also doesn’t ignite and is environmentally friendly. Each piece of the siding is adequately sealed to be resistant to any exterior impact.

As we mentioned before, all materials are provided with up to a 50-year warranty, but Allura siding colors, factory baked-on, are only offered with a 15-year warranty. However, this period is more than “slightly less”. It is still longer than you can expect from on-site paintwork to last.

The main siding types are

  1. Cedar Grain or Smooth Lap siding
  2. Smooth, Cedar Grain, 8” OC Grooved, and Stucco Panels
  3. Straight and Staggered Edge Shake

We have done a little review of each of those types and are ready to introduce them to you briefly.

  4. Stucco Vertical Panel.

Traditional 8” Groove Panels are produced with a special edge on both sides of the panel, forming a V-shaped groove where the tongue and groove joints come together. Shake Siding

One of the most high-end and expensive siding options that Allura company produces are shakes and shingles. Their price can be explained by the beautiful look and imitating natural wood feel and look, without any maintenance.

Allura Shake Siding is available in 6 variations:

The 7″ and 5″ estimations allude to the amount of the shingle configuration uncovered beneath the shingle above it. The 7″ Shake Select has a fantastic edge, and the 7″ and the 5″ Straight Edge have an even edge.

The 8-inch Individual Shakes are for the individuals who love the appearance of customary cedar shakes. They come in simple-to-introduce boards that resemble 8-inch wide, singular shakes with either a straight edge or a fantastic edge appearance. The boards come ready for action for your preferred paint shade.

These are altogether accessible in 25 tones and five stain choices.

Installation requirements of Allura siding

As with any exterior covering, all Allura products require high-class installation, provided by a qualified and experienced work team. We encourage you to not risk and hire only checked contractors, which are required to keep your lifetime warranty on siding products.

How to paint and caulk your Allura siding

Toloka Corporation recommends not to caulk but joints to keep it free of upkeep, but re-caulking is needed eventually. That is why we decided to provide you with special tips for re-caulking:

  • Caulking should be ASTMC920 and class 25 designation. (ASTMC920 is Standard Specification for Elastomeric Joint Sealants and class 25 stands for its sealant and adhesive qualities)
  • Always apply only acrylic latex dye.
  • Cut edges also must be primed.
  • Never use paint or colorant based on oil.
  • Caulking and flashing can be applied to all butt joints, but be aware that such a thing can add more maintenance in the future. However, it also protects your siding edges.
  • Your contractor company should provide its workers with high-quality paint that has exterior grade and environmentally friendly.

Things to know when installing fiber cement siding

As you already know, fiber cement siding is not compliant material as others, so there a few things you should consider before its installing:

  • It can’t expand. Allura siding doesn’t grow under the influence of temperature, moisture, or UV rays.
  • Unlike with other siding materials, there shouldn’t be a gap between the panel edges. Allura siding requires at least moderate contact between the butt joints.
  • But, when it comes to siding end edges, there should be a ⅛” space where it contacts other trim boards, panels, or corner boards.
  • The same thing, when it comes to windows and doors: there should be a minimal gap of ¼,” and it can be expanded to a maximum of ⅛”.
  • The maximum flashing that is allowed for Allura siding is ¼”. Otherwise, water would be gathering in it, which may become a big problem soon.
Storing and keeping Allura siding
  • All types of installation works should begin with providing a safe environment on the construction site, wearing appropriate safety equipment such as dust masks, eye protection, hard helmets, and special gloves.
  • Then, we ascertain that all of the material is kept covered, off the ground on a flat surface, preferably clean.
  •  It is essential to keep Allura siding away from direct exposure to weather; moreover, installation workers must not set wet products.
Installment with appropriate fasteners
  • It is crucial to use long-lasting, protected from corrosion and acid solid frames so that siding will remain on its site during its lifetime.
  •  If your project requires fasteners, they should also be corrosion-resistant, hot-dipped galvanized, or stainless nails.
  •  All workers should know that using staples, D-head nails, and construction adhesives is restricted while installing fiber cement siding.
Cutting Allura siding on-site
  • This type of exterior covering can not be snapped or scored and cut with a circular saw,  miter, or table saw.
  •  The most important thing is to cut it outside, if possible, but if not, the room should be appropriately ventilated.

We would love to help you with your project and offer you the best product firsthand to see how the Allura company products can give your building the character and beauty you are looking for. Contact Toloka Corporation to make the first step towards your brand-new modern house.
