Stucco Siding

The Most Trendy Seamless Home Exterior

Being popular in European countries, stucco siding could be an excellent choice for lovers of the traditional exterior. First, we need to tell you what is exactly hidden under the word “stucco”. It’s a siding material made of Portland cement, sand, lime, and water. Stucco siding is considered to be a thin finish coat, the outer layer of the wall that can be painted.

TOLOKA General Contractor&Builder works with different stucco manufacturers and can offer you a high-quality decoration of the house with this product. Stucco siding application has either three layers or one. A more durable process takes more time but the result will please you in any case.

This type of siding has limited color options: white, yellow, neutral colors, pink, green. However, with the possibility of a two-tone application, you can customize the look of your house.

Common Stucco Siding Types

There exist two available variants to choose from:

  • Traditional stucco is mostly installed over a layer of mesh that is wrapped around the building. Multiple ingredients of this product have the intention to make the stucco easier to work with and more permeable. The lime influences the color of the material but additional pigments could change the color. A unique design can be created through smoothing or roughening up the finish, or adding stones and other aggregates.
  • Synthetic stucco includes a special mixture of acrylic resins that mimics the appearance of traditional stucco. This feature makes it impossible to differ whether a house is painted with synthetic stucco or with a traditional one. The content of this stucco type is based on natural materials. It’s more water-resistant and during the application process, it dries more evenly. Synthetic stucco is applied over a foam board.

Stucco House Finish Review

What’s great for our clients, stucco can have numerous designs. It’s worked by hand, so it can be textured in many ways. Besides, it’s possible to make your stucco finish from raw ingredients.

Most customers decide to apply stucco over two layers: masonry or wood. On concrete masonry, you need a base horizontal scratch coat produced with a comb-like tool. Wood-sheathed houses require a longer preparation time before stucco application. Firstly, there goes a waterproof building layer with self-furring metal lath. Then the scratch coat is needed and only after that comes the subsequent stucco finish.

The following description will tell you more about variants of stucco house finish that TOLOKA General Contractor&Builder offers.

Float or sand is the basic type of stucco for commercial buildings. Quick application is available as it can be sprayed on. A towel is used afterward to flatten the surface. Also, this finish can be easily patched in case you worry about future stucco damages.

An irregular coating with an old-fashioned look is formed by Santa Barbara finish. Very small sand particles provide a special finished design. If you ever get bored by this stucco, we can paint the exterior walls later with plenty of colors.

Dash finish has a heavy, medium, and light volume. Usually, two or three coats of stucco are applied to make the final look. Both traditional and synthetic stucco can be used. There’s only a slight possibility of cracking or breaking as dash finish can be patched without additional efforts.

Cat Face finish is identified by very large smooth areas with smaller rough patches scattered evenly around. These so-called inclusions depend only on your imagination. Uniqueness is achieved through the final touches that are always done by hand.

If you ever try to imagine stucco, you surely pictured Lace and Skip finish. Its rough surface is great to cover any house imperfections. The texture is added after applying a base coat. With traditional stucco using, you won’t have the same depth as with synthetic stucco finish.

Swirl or Worm finish is created by moving the big pieces of aggregate in the stucco and forming indentations. This will lead to the way that every part of the wall will look different. Synthetic stucco is great for this finish. Professional workers can produce a course, fine or medium pattern of the worm finish. But it’s very hard to be repaired in the future.

For traditional stucco, English finish is generally used. This one is easy to be patched and is used mostly on older homes. Besides, the stucco variations are going to be different from house to house.

Smooth finish is considered to be the most complicated for application. And it’s becoming more and more popular among the customers. A customized look can be created by adding colors that will fit with other exterior elements. However, when the finish cracks, it’s very hard to patch it correctly.
